Gold (XAUUSD) lot size calculator
Calculate the XAUUSD lot size from balance, risk % and stop distance in dollars, and see the dollar value of a price move. Free, browser-only, with contract size you can change.
Why gold needs its own calculator
Gold is quoted in dollars per ounce, and most brokers set one lot to 100 ounces. A one dollar move in price therefore changes the value of a 1.00 lot position by about 100. Brokers also disagree on what a pip or a point is for XAUUSD, so this calculator uses the dollar distance between your entry and your stop instead.
Example: a 10,000 account risking 1% is 100 at risk. With a stop 5 dollars away and a 100 ounce contract, a 1.00 lot loses 500 at the stop, so the lot size is 100 / 500 = 0.20 lots.
Things to check before using the result
Open the symbol specification in MetaTrader 5 and confirm the contract size, minimum lot and lot step. Gold spreads widen sharply around US data and news, which can cause a stop to fill worse than planned, and a large position on a small account can use most of your margin.
This calculator is general education, not financial advice. Results are estimates that ignore spread, commission, slippage and swap, and trading carries a high level of risk.
