MT5 EA not trading: AutoTrading disabled and error 4752, 10026, 10027

An Expert Advisor can be attached to a chart and still never open a trade. In MetaTrader 5 the cause is usually one of a few switches or a message in the Experts tab. This guide goes through them in the order that finds the problem fastest.

Check the three switches first

Three separate settings must all allow trading. The Algo Trading button in the top toolbar must be green, Allow Algo Trading must be ticked in the EA's Common tab, and the EA's icon in the chart's top-right corner must show a smiley face. A frowning or crossed icon means the EA is attached but blocked.

The toolbar button turns every EA on or off for the whole terminal, while the Common tab setting is per chart, so one chart can be blocked while another works.

Read the Experts and Journal tabs

Press Ctrl+T to open the Toolbox and read the latest lines in the Experts tab. The EA writes its own reasons there, and the Journal tab shows what the platform and the server returned. A line is usually more useful than any guess.

What the common messages mean

Error 4752 means trading by Expert Advisors is prohibited. Check the toolbar button and the Allow Algo Trading setting in the EA's properties, and in Tools > Options > Expert Advisors confirm that Allow Algorithmic Trading is enabled.

Return code 10027 means AutoTrading is disabled by the client terminal, which points to the same switches on your side. Return code 10026 means AutoTrading is disabled by the server, so the broker or the account type does not allow it and you need to ask the broker.

  • 10027: disabled in your terminal. Turn on the toolbar button and the EA's setting.
  • 10026: disabled by the broker's server. Contact the broker about the account.
  • 4752: EA trading prohibited. Recheck the Options and the EA's Common tab.

When the switches are on but there is still no trade

Then the EA itself may be waiting. Most EAs only trade inside certain hours, with a maximum spread, or when their entry conditions are met, so no trade can simply mean no signal. Check the EA's manual for its trading hours, spread filter, symbol and timeframe, and confirm the chart matches them.

Also confirm the market is open, the account is not read-only (an investor password gives view-only access), and the symbol name matches your broker's, since some brokers add a suffix to the symbol.

Test safely before changing settings

Reproduce the problem on a demo account and read the Experts tab there first. Change one setting at a time so you know what fixed it, and keep a copy of the working settings in a setfile.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my EA show a smiley face but not trade?

The switches are fine, so the EA is likely waiting on its own conditions such as trading hours, a spread filter or a signal. Check the manual and the Experts tab.

What is the difference between error 10026 and 10027?

10027 means AutoTrading is disabled in your own terminal. 10026 means it is disabled by the broker's server, so you need to ask the broker.

Does an investor password stop an EA trading?

Yes. An investor password gives read-only access, so no EA can place trades. Log in with the trading password.
